The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a warm and cozy atmosphere reminiscent of a gingerbread house. The flickering fire in the old-fashioned fireplace welcomes you to relax while soft music fills the air. The café is adorned with rustic decorations, featuring the captivating artwork of the owner, Noborusan, who is not only an enthusiastic chef but also a talented photographer with a small gallery showcasing his work.

Cafe Himehouse stands out for its delightful menu that encapsulates the flavors of the region while satisfying diverse palates. Their curry rice is robust and comforting, perfect for warming up during those chilly days, as described by customer Michael Hsueh. He praised the conversation shared with Noborusan, and one can imagine how the friendly atmosphere enhances every meal. For those with a sweet tooth, the apple pie is a must-try, celebrated for its rich flavors and perfect texture that keep guests coming back for more.

But it’s not just the food; the beverages shine just as brightly. Guests rave about the coffee, known for its rich, aromatic quality that invigorates your senses. The café often hosts live events, including performances that combine soothing music with delicious food, enhancing the sense of togetherness and artistry. The culinary offerings, like pancakes paired with blended coffee and cacao, speak to the heart of comfort food—making this café feel like your own personal retreat.

Noboru-san, the owner/chef/master is a very warm and friendly host to our family. We enjoyed the curry rice and apple pie very much, as well as our conversation with him

Snow was falling heavily while firewood crackled in the warm stove inside. The coffee was delicious, dorayaki was soft and tasty. The owner was so friendly he shared persimmons and roasted potatoes with us, sweetest for this winter. When we left, the snow was coming down even harder and the sky had grown darker. We were deeply grateful to the owner for driving us back to hotel. Such a perfect and heartwarming day!

This is a nice cozy coffee shop nestled at the beginning of Oirase Gorge. The atmosphere is very rustic and the owner is a great photographer with a small gallery of his work on the side. The food was a bit average but still definitely worth a stop!

Awesome little place to relax. The interior is beautifully adorned with rustic items. Menu is also accessible, with a variety of food and drinks. The tea and coffee options are very generous and served in lovely tea/coffee sets. The staff was kind and welcoming. Apparently they host live events too. Unfortunately, it seems that due to COVID19 there aren't many customers, which is a pity since this is such a gem.

Himehouse Cafe is like a ginger bread house with an old fashioned ‘close’ fire place for heating water in the center of the cafe. A Harley Davidson sits centrepiece as you make your entry. Just further in, a stage with percussion instruments, sound equipment, electric guitar and cello seems ready for a jazz gig. Great place for apple pies and pancakes accompanied by blended coffee and cacao. Noboru, the resident photographer and host adds to the charm of the eclectic cafe. Great place after a hike!

We fell in love with this coffee shop 14 years ago and the owner’s photography. The owner noticed my interest in a particular photo and asked for our address. Days later we received the photo- with us in it. We couldn’t wait to come back to say thank you and enjoy his apple pie and coffee when we arrived in Japan!

A really sweet café tucked into the Oirase Gorge area with the coolest owner. The inside has a relaxed log cabin vibe, with various instruments and even a photo area. The chicken curry and apple pie are both delicious, as is the coffee. The owner played a few of the instruments while we ate, and then set up the photo area for us to take some silly photos before we headed out. My only regret is not being able to spend more time here, and I hope to be able to go back someday!
